Minor League Report – A look at one of the best prospects
Minor League Report – A look at one of the best prospects
Justin Grimm, RHP, double-A Frisco:
It almost seems like a formality at this point, but Grimm did make one
final minor league start last Sunday before his big league debut. Grimm
was strong again, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out
eight. He was lifted after the seventh inning. Then, as you might
remember, he struck out seven and allowing three runs across seven
innings of work Saturday for the Rangers. It’s hard to know just what
the Rangers’ plans are for Grimm at this point. When Roy Oswalt and
Derek Holland are ready to go, he could find himself back at Frisco… or
he could pull a Robbie Ross and find himself in the bullpen. Either way,
you know that he’s front and center on the big league radar now.

Another stellar start: Harrison, Rangers shut out Diamondbacks, 1-0
ARLINGTON — Matt Harrison is giving the Texas Rangers just the kind
of boost they need after a sudden string of pitching injuries.
Harrison extended his consecutive scoreless streak to 16 1-3 innings, pitching into the eighth before Mike Adams and Joe Nathan closed out the Rangers’ third shutout victory in their past five games, 1-0 over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.

L.A. wins Stanley Cup
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings' 45-year Stanley Cup quest ended in a triumphant flourish of blood, sweat and power-play goals. After missing two chances to claim the title last week, the long-suffering Kings are NHL champions for the first time.
Hooray for Hockeywood.
Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis scored two goals apiece, playoff MVP Jonathan Quick made 17 saves in his latest stellar performance, and the Kings beat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 Monday night in Game 6 of the finals, becoming the first eighth-seeded playoff team to win the league title.
Captain Dustin Brown had a goal and two assists for Los Angeles, which ended its dominant two-month playoff run before a frenzied bunch of their heartiest fans, incessantly waving towels and glowsticks. The crowd including several dozen Kings faithful who have been at rinkside since the team's berth as an expansion franchise in 1967, waiting for one glimpse of the Stanley Cup.
After taking a 3-0 series lead and then losing two potential clinching games last week, the Kings finished ferociously at Staples Center just when the sixth-seeded Devils appeared to have a chance for one of the biggest comebacks in finals history.
One penalty abruptly changed the tone of a series. Brown, Carter and Lewis scored during a five-minute power play in the first period after Steve Bernier was ejected for boarding Rob Scuderi, leaving the veteran defenseman in a pool of blood. Quick took it from there, finishing his star-making postseason by allowing just seven goals in six finals games.

State Highway 130 in Texas may receive 85 MPH speed limit
Some of you may already know this, but back in early
2007, the U.S. state of Texas banned all speed cameras and then the
following year recorded the lowest ever vehicle causality rate since counting began 75 years ago. Reports are claiming that the biggest state in America is set to take another huge step to help slow the road toll even more.
Some
controversial research has previously shown that driving consistently
at higher speeds on highways is actually safer than slower speeds as it
forces drivers to be more alert. Taking into consideration the fact
that the Autobahn is extremely safe with many regions not having speed
limits, it wouldn’t be out of the question to raise speed limits in
Texas.
That’s exactly what the Texas Department of
Transportation is planning to do. The highest speed you’re allowed to
legally travel in Texas is currently 80 miles per hour on select roads,
but the TDOT plans to increase that to 85 mph on State Highway 130 which
travels from San Antonio all the way to Austin.
Understandably,
many people are outraged by this proposal and before anything goes
ahead, the TDOT will have to conduct extensive speed tests to make sure
the road is actually safe to be driven on at 85 mph. However, speed
management director for the TDOT, Darren McDaniel is confident the road
is up for the job claiming it “was designed under extremely high design
parameters.”
If the changes do go through and the results are positive, then expect other U.S. states to go down a similar route.

Memorial Day in United States
Memorial Day started as an event to honor Union soldiers, who had
died during the American Civil War. It was inspired by the way people in
the Southern states honored their dead. After World War I, it was
extended to include all men and women, who died in any war or military
action.
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. The current name for this day did not come into use until after World War II. Decoration Day and then Memorial Day used to be held on May 30, regardless of the day of the week, on which it fell. In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed as part of a move to use federal holidays to create three-day weekends. This meant that that, from 1971, Memorial Day holiday has been officially observed on the last Monday in May. However, it took a longer period for all American states to recognize the new date.

Rangers Vs. Orioles: Texas Takes Series With 7-3 Win
Josh Hamilton hit another home run as the Rangers won the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles in Baltimore, along with the series.
Derek Holland got the start for Texas and gave up three runs on four hits over six innings. All three runs came in the second inning. Texas scored the first runs of the game with Hamilton's two-run blast in the first inning. In the fifth inning, Mike Napoli tied the game on a triple and was later scored on a single by Elvis Andrus, giving the Rangers the lead. Texas tacked on three more in the seventh.
Hamilton went 1-for-4, while Napoli went 2-for-4. After taking one out of three games in its previous three series, the Rangers finished a 10-game road trip on a high note, taking three of four games in Baltimore. Texas will now head home for seven games.

Josh Hamilton hits four home runs against Orioles, becomes 16th player in history to reach record
Josh Hamilton won over baseball on a summer night in the Bronx four
years ago, putting on an unbelievable show of power in the home run
derby at old Yankee Stadium. On Tuesday night in Baltimore, the Texas Rangers star captivated all of
baseball with his home run prowess again — this time during a
regular-season game — swatting four homers off Orioles pitchers in a 10-3 win at Camden Yards.
We make big deals about perfect games, but 21 pitchers have recorded one throughout baseball history. Only 15 other players have hit four home runs in the same game with the last one before Hamilton being Carlos Delgado on Sept. 25, 2003. No one has ever hit five home runs in a single game.
A few other facts about Hamilton's four-homer effort:
• Hamilton went 5-for-5 on the night with eight RBIs and collected an American League-record 18 total bases. If you count the homer he hit in the ninth inning of Monday's game, he has five home runs in his last six at-bats (and a total of 14 on the season).
